Exciting new arrivals

Yesterday was a bumper day, bookwise. Not in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality.

I need not go into minute detail for the first special delivery. Allow me just to post this:

Oh yes. I am quite ridiculously excited about this one: Sarah Waters’s new novel The Little Stranger. It shall be my evening reward for days of dissertation work over the weekend.

Secondly, regular readers will know that I’m a big fan of a literary magazine called The Reader. It has something for everyone – essays, reviews, poetry, and comment. I like it a lot. My liking of it could only increase, therefore, when they asked me to write an article on the literary blogosphere.

The issue with my ‘Blogger’s Digest’ article is just coming out around now – my copy popped through the letterbox yesterday. Unlike some other literary outlets, The Reader really embraces the blogosphere and what bloggers bring to the larger conversation about books and literature. They also have their own blog, which can be found here.

  1. Oooh, I’ve just this minute added The Little Stranger to my Amazon wishlist after watching Sarah Waters talking about it on Youtube. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it – sounds pretty different to her other novels.

    Congrats on the article :)

  2. Someone told me I was quoted on the back of this issue, so I went out today and bought it – then saw I was mentioned in your article, thank you very much!

  3. Sarah Waters is coming to Brighton in a few weeks’ time, so I’m holding out for a signed copy. I might have to ask her to write another neo-Victorian potboiler.

  4. somebody toldme I was mentioned also in this article so many thanks!
