As you may or may not know, as part of my day job I contribute posts to OUPblog, and if you haven’t already got that on your RSS readers, then I demand to know why not.
ANYWAY, today’s post is a bit of a favourite of mine, so I thought I would mention it here as well. One of the Booker shortlisted novels I am particularly intrigued about is The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds. Set in 1840, it is about the incarceration of poet John Clare in a mental asylum, with Tennyson as a main character in the book. Today’s OUPblog post is by nineteenth-century literature scholar (and novelist in his own right) Adam Roberts, who edited an edition of Tennyson’s poetry. In the post he is examining how Foulds treats Tennyson in the novel.
It’s a great post, and one that has made me look forward to that big parcel from The Book People arriving even more. Do stop by and take a look. And then add OUPblog to your RSS readers.
