The Crimson Petal and the White: A Competition

Long-time readers will have seen me rave on many an occasion about The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber. I genuinely think it’s my favourite contemporary novel.

Well, the good people of Canongate have recently reissued the novel with a shiny new cover, and kindly sent me a copy of it. Now, of course, [...]

Henry Dunbar – M.E. Braddon & The Blood of the Vampire – Florence Marryat

Before I start talking about Henry Dunbar by Mary Elizabeth Braddon and The Blood of the Vampire by Florence Marryat, I feel I should make a full disclosure.
These are the two newest releases from Victorian Secrets, the small publishing house set up by my friend Catherine to bring forgotten 19th century books back from bibliographic [...]

I just saw this story in The Bookseller:
John Blake is publishing an up-to-date account of Cheryl and Ashley Cole’s turbulent relationship, entitled Love Wars… John Blake said: “It’s a brilliantly poignant love story of two young people torn apart by success beyond their wildest dreams.”

My Life in a Book Meme

This meme was started by the lovely Simon at Stuck in a Book a few days ago, and I’ve decided to pilfer it. The idea is to choose ten random books from your shelves and post what they say about you. So, this is a truly random selection (eyes closed and grab) of the library [...]

Salt Publishing: Just One Book

My blogging has once again been shamefully lax, for which I apologize. Dissertation, dissertation, dissertation. And I’ve been reading a very long book. But I had to come out of self-imposed blog exile to flag up this, which I saw on Scott Pack’s blog today.
The below is from Salt Publishing, a poetry and short story [...]

*sigh*

I hate to sound like a bitch and everything, but I just saw this on my daily BookBrunch e-newsletter:
In a deal with Modest! Management and Creative Director Dean Freeman, Hodder Editor Fenella Bates has bought world rights in the autobiography of Leona Lewis. The book will feature more than 100 exclusive, behind-the-scenes photographs by Freeman, [...]
